Q. What are the Search Engine Land Awards?
A. At Search Engine Land, we wanted to provide a meaningful way to "Celebrate the Power of Search" within the search marketing community.
The Search Engine Land Awards program, a.k.a. "The Landy Awards" are dedicated to honoring the best practices of search marketing by recognizing the consultants, agencies, in-house teams, search tools and platforms used by digital marketers to execute successful programs encompassing organic, paid, local, mobile and social search tactics.
Even better, a portion of the proceeds from awards entry fees and awards program sponsors will be donated to charitable causes, that's even more reason to celebrate! Third Door Media guarantees a $5,000 minimum donation to charity.
Q. Is There An Entry Form I Need To Download?
A. No. The entry application process is entirely online, broken down into a multi-step process.
Once you create a user profile and select a category for entry, you will see fields to enter specific data required, depending on the category (SEO, SEM, individual or team awards) you select.
You can complete your entry in phases, editing and updating until you finalize your submission.
Q. What Do I Need To Know Before Entering?
A. First, read all of the category descriptions thoroughly to understand specific criteria for each category. After that, it's up to you to write a compelling case study (750 words or less!) that incorporates all relevant details to meet requested criteria and provide supporting data (visual charts/graphs) for the judges' review.
Judges will be looking for:
- Innovative strategies & creative tactics implemented.
- Best Practices / White-Hat methods employed.
- Resources & technology utilized.
- Tangible / Measurable business results - specific metrics are required depending on the category.
All data submitted is considered confidential by the judges, and they are not allowed to share entry materials publicly. The editorial staff of Search Engine Land, Third Door Media or its partners may request permission to summarize the finalists and/or winning entries post-event. You will be contacted if your entry is selected for editorial or promotional purposes prior to publication.

Q. Can I Submit An Entry To More Than One Category?
A. Yes. At the end of the application process, you will be asked if you want to copy the submission details to another category, or you can begin a second application from scratch before you complete the checkout process. Additional fees will apply for each category entered.
For example, if you are entering "Agency of the Year - SEO" but your team also manages paid search, you can copy the bulk of the application information to "Agency of the Year - SEM". You'll need to modify any submission materials explicitly requested for the second category, as needed / if significantly different from the first. In this case, paid search results would likely be different from organic.
Q. What If I Have A Question About An Awards Category or Entry Criteria?
A. We will update this FAQ and awards category details as necessary until the entry period closes. If you still have additional questions, please email email@example.com for more information.
Q. I Am A Consultant/Represent An Agency, Can I Submit My Work For A Client?
A. Of course - we want your work to get the credit it deserves! However, you must have full permission to include client company name/website and provide supporting client data as required. You must also provide a client-side reference, name and contact details with your submission.
Q. I Represent A Tool/Platform, Can I Enter the Awards?
A. YES! New in 2018, we've added the category: BEST RESEARCH INITIATIVE - SOFTWARE TOOLS & PLATFORMS. Plus, any search marketing tool or platform can enter their own campaign initiatives in SEO or PPC that have lead to increased sales/leads, installations or downloads of the product.
What about entering campaigns on behalf of a customer? Yes, you can do that too. However, you must have full permission to include client company name/website and provide supporting client data as required. You must also provide a client-side reference, name and contact details with your submission.
Q. Do You Accept Entries From Outside The US?
A. Yes, The Search Engine Land Awards are open to global entries; non-US and international campaigns are eligible. However, all award applications and entries must be submitted in English.
Q. Who are the judges?
The Search Engine Land editorial staff (and only independent contractors of our parent company) are responsible for the primary task of reviewing and scoring all of the campaign focused categories, in conjunction with representatives from Google and Bing, adhering to strict confidentiality standards in order to maintain privacy of sensitive data.
Agency employees and individual consultants do not review or judge other agency work. Partner organization (Clutch.co) assists with the independent review of agency categories; trusted partners OMCP and SEOinHouse score the in-house team awards, and past winners of the individual awards are invited to participate in naming successors.
Other measures are in place to reduce conflicts of interest in judging, and judges are asked to recuse themselves from reviewing and scoring any application in which they may have a personal or business connection.
Q. When Will The Awards Ceremony Take Place?
A. The Search Engine Land Awards winners will be announced during an evening celebration in conjunction with the annual SMX Advanced conference.
The 4th annual Search Engine Land Awards ceremony and celebration will be held at Seattle's Museum of Pop Culture, Tuesday, June 12, 2018, from 8:00PM – 11PM.
Finalists will be notified in May 2018. The awards celebration will feature an open bar, food & guaranteed fun alongside the awards ceremony at the industry's biggest search marketing celebration.

Q. Can My Company Sponsor The Search Engine Land Awards & Celebration Event @SMX ?
A. Absolutely! There are several sponsorship opportunities for industry leading organizations including agencies, search marketing tools and platforms to gain visibility through media impressions and on-site at the awards ceremony and celebration event.

Q. How Much Do You Expect To Donate To The Charities Selected?
A. A portion of proceeds from the 2018 awards entry fees and event tickets (after expenses) will be donated to a designated non-profit organization. The SMX community has donated over $80,000 to worthy causes in the last decade. Third Door Media, publisher of Search Engine Land, producer of The Landy Awards and SMX, guarantees a minimum of $5,000 will be donated.
The selected charity for 2018 is Mental Health America.
